Her dried up body began to fill and her beauty burst into bloom. The narrator continues in the same vein telling us about her smooth skin, her glistening legs, tall figure and well-proportioned body. However, the most fascinating part of her face were her lips — usually dyed in lipstick and with a mere trace of down on her upper lip.

What does Bible prophecy really have to say? It means we conquer by stooping, by serving with love and kindness, even if it means personal danger or financial hardship. Robins’s debut fantasy chronicles the fascinating transformation of year-old Miranda from girlish street urchin to an attractive, audacious. Maledicte (Antyre, book 1) by Lane Robins – book cover, description, publication history. There’s not much I can say about Lane Robins, author of “Maledicte”. As far as I can tell, she doesn’t have a website or blog yet, and about all.
This is more than a story about a woman in man’s clothing; this is something much much more. It was great that she so took Maledicte’s character in herself that she was referred to using male pronouns through almost the entire novel. To be honest most stories that describe themselves as such make me roll my eyes and move on, but in this case I make an exception. It seems like now-a-days everything is part of a series.
Then again, the people who seemed to love this book also loved the Kushiel series, and frankly, I hated that book I only read the first and only just managed to wade through it. When it came time for a career, it was a hard choice between veterinarian and writer. The characters each burning with their own flame, their own worldviews, and yet, all sharing the same feelings, in differing strengths and varying willingness llane act upon them.
The story is also about treachery and corruption mixed with lots and lots of murder. It’s also worth noting how excellently the action scenes are described — and make no mistake, there’s plenty of sleek violence in this book to satisfy those looking for that sort of thing.
For Maledicte this is more than a goal, but a promise made to Black-Winged Ani, who has granted him Her favor in exchange for the completion of his bloody quest. And then funny thing happened, I came across someone online who shared all my tastes in books and loved this. Seething with decadent appetites unchecked by law or gods, the court of Antyre is ruled by the last of a dissolute aristocracy.
This is dark fantasy full of betrayal and vengeance with lyrical prose. Maledicte is a book that skillfully juggles all three elements, while impressively managing to hit a few of my other less commonly prodded buttons. Dec 28, Jennifer rated it it was amazing Shelves: In particular, a fantasy book where I ribins fall in love with the characters.
